How old were you when you put on your first pair of pantyhose? And do you still wear pantyhose?


It was the latter part of 7th grade, so about 12 years old. It was a big deal to start wearing nylons to school (this was 1970) instead of knee socks. I had finally convinced my mother I was old enough and she said I could start when I got to junior high school.
I was so happy! But wait, my mother wore stockings with a girdle with garters. She was not going to get me those new style pantyhose. No, she found a device with garters for her daughter to attach nylon stockings to. This was no sexy garter belt, this was a stretchy white tube that was supposed to stay on my non-existent hips and hold up stockings that only wanted to fall down.
Gym was theater of cruelty. Putting this device back on after phys ed took so much time I was often running late for my next class. Girls who wore pantyhose looked at me as a freak. Not the best of times.
I finally decided to save my allowance and buy my own pantyhose. Such a feeling of freedom! No pinching garters, the end of pulling stockings back into place all day, the end of the disdainf looks in the gym locker room. I had arrived.
As I got older, I did not always wear hosiery, but when I did, it was always pantyhose. I don't work anymore and my wardrobe is shorts, blouse, and flip-flops, so my pantyhose days are behind me now.
